Autumn leaves float
Lifeboats for bugs to ride
(they don't need them)

  1. I took this photo near White River, Ontario. I had stopped to eat lunch by a small pond and noticed a congregation of waterbugs skating effortlessly across its glassy surface. I imagined that the birch leaves were life boats thrown by some concerned denizen of the ecosystem. The bugs, however, required no such flotation devices to be perfectly at ease on the water.
